Generally speaking, children ages 6 months to 1 year learn the ISR Self-Rescue® skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest, and breathe. They learn to maintain this position until help arrives. Your children may learn a short swim while rolling on their back depending on your child’s skill level.
Every child is different. These lessons typically take 4 to 6 weeks to learn. Infants will be tested at the end of their course fully clothed and with diapers. Each child is an individual, but all will learn to roll from stomach to back at this age.
Once they have completed their initial training your instructor will talk to you about maintenance lessons and when your child will move onto the Swim Float Swim sequence.
